Our friends and fellow WEPG members 'Women’s Enterprise Scotland' (WES) have announced the appointment of Margaret Gibson as its new Chief Executive. Margaret has over 25 years of experience working with the business community in Scotland, having been Director of Marketing and Communications with the Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust for many years. Mrs Gibson has significant international business experience through her work with enterprise charities across the world and, in addition, previously ran her own business.
Commenting on the appointment, WES Chair, Jackie Waring, said, “We are delighted to have gained someone of Margaret’s calibre and experience. She is an exceptional individual who has the drive, passion and commitment to help Scotland’s women take even greater strides forward in business to help improve our economy.”
A recent survey by WES and The Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship showed that Scotland’s female entrepreneurs are focused on growth, with 87% planning to expand their businesses in the next two years. If this growth can be realised and women are encouraged to set up in business at the same rate as men, Scotland's economy could grow by 5% with an additional 100,000 enterprises. WES recently collaborated in the launch of the draft Framework/Action Plan for the development of women’s enterprise in Scotland.
Margaret Gibson said, “I am honoured to take on this role, I believe that profiling positive female role models and developing a supportive network will see more women taking steps to set up their own business.”
Margaret's work will build on the solid base already achieved by Jackie Brierton MBE and the WES team. Jackie remains with WES as a Director on the Board.
We at The Women's Organisation would like to wish Margaret all the best in her new role.
