@54StJamesStreet Welcomes the Business Experts

The Women’s Organisation marked the start of their ‘Venture Accelerator’, a new Merseyside Business Growth programme today with a panel led masterclass event at 54 St James Street.
David Wade Smith, Edwina Dunn & Maggie O'Carroll
The special event, in partnership with Downtown in Liverpool, played host to leading woman in business, Edwina Dunn and Merseyside business expert David Wade-Smith.

Edwina is the co founder of dunnhumby, the company behind Tesco’s Clubcard, My Kroger Plus and other loyalty programmes around the world. She founded dunnhumby with her husband Clive Humby in their back bedroom in 1989 and by the time they retired in 2011, it had grown to an organisation of 1500 people, reaching 350m customers in 25 countries.

David Wade-Smith is a local Business Growth and Investment Specialist and widely known for being co-founder of Wade Smith retail outlet.

Female entrepreneurs from across Merseyside gathered to hear of Edwina’s incredible journey into entrepreneurship. Genuine and authentic, Edwina shared with the audience how she hadn’t been particularly academic at school, but it was at her first ‘real’ job that she felt the ‘lights go on’. It was also where she met her life and business partner Clive Humby. They would go on to form Dunhumby together and achieve huge success.

When asked what the key to success was, Edwina had a few key tips: "Having a great staff team surrounding you is important", as is "having the belief, vision and instinct".
Below are some of the tweets that followed the event.
