Understanding Etsy Tips: Customising Your Shop

This is the third in our series of Etsy tips.  If you have not yet set up your Etsy shop you may want to hop back to the first blog in this series

After you’ve opened your Etsy shop, you’ll be able to fill out your About page, which contains essential information about your shop members and business.

To access your About page, click Your Shop, and find the About link under Shop Settings on the left side of the screen

Your About page is where you can share the story of your business with the community. Shoppers can learn more about your business, products and creative process.
If your shop isn't open to the public, open your shop before adding an About page.

There are several sections on the About page where you can share information.

Adding Shop Members
Your Shop Members is where you can list to the Etsy community anyone involved in making your items, or running your shop. It’s an important part of your About page, and essential to representing yourself in the marketplace.

Fill out information about your Shop Members:

To edit your Shop Member info, hover over the List icon to the right of the member you want to change. An Edit button will appear:

The Etsy community values openness and clarity. We would encourage you to tell the story of your business with others by sharing info about the members and process behind your Etsy shop. Providing the community with your story will help to give light to what you do. Before you publish your shop's About page, take a moment to fill out this section.

Story Headline
: Sum up your shop in one sentence. What are you and your shop about?

Story: Here's your chance to really connect with the community! You can discuss how your business was founded, what impact it has had on your life, and what you see for its future. You can use up to 5,000 characters, so we encourage you to share as many great facts and stories about your shop as you can!

Alongside telling your story, you might want to show a few pictures of your process. In this section, you'll be able to upload shop photos and add important shop links.

Shop Photos
: Provide shoppers an even closer look at your business by uploading photos. These could include everything from your creation process to your studio layout. Images can be .jpg, .png, or .gif files up to 2MB. You can upload photos of any dimension you like, but your photos will be cropped to display at 760 x 428 pixels.

Links: You can add up to three links to your About page. These can include any combination of the following types of pages: Facebook fan pages, Twitter accounts, shop blogs, or shop websites.

Previewing and Publishing

When you're ready to publish your About page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Save & Preview button. You'll be provided with a preview of how your page will look to shoppers visiting your storefront.

If you're happy with how everything looks, you can publish your page by clicking the blue  button. If you'd like to make any changes, click the grey Continue Editing button.

Your shop is now set up and looking good, it's time to get selling!
